Application of Higher Order Thinking Skills in Military Academic Programs «A Proposed Theoretical Model»
Abstract
Institutions are now focusing on developing high-level thinking skills due to their vital role in advancing work in military institutions, especially in the transition to the knowledge economy. This has led all civil and military academies to focus primarily on applying high-level thinking skills, also known as 21st-century skills. The problem at the core of this study is to what extent military educational institutions emphasize the inclusion of higher order thinking skills in their curriculum. The significance of this research lies in studying and analyzing the implementation of these skills in academic programs in general and military academies in particular to understand how enhancing these skills contributes to the quality of educational outcomes and the development of intellectual capital. The research aims to propose a vision on how to include and enhance 21st-century skills in academic courses. The study finds that there are no applied studies on Arab academic institutions indicating the application of 21st-century skills. It emphasizes the need for conducting a study and analysis of the curriculum in military academies to implement these skills.
